Pennytown: Through the Eyes of Josephine R. Lawrence
This booklet contains the story of one little black girl who would grow up to be the preserver of Pennytown’s history. That little girl’s name was Josephine Robinson Lawrence. Mrs. Lawrence, was born and raised in Pennytown, here in these pages, provides her take on growing up and living in Pennytown well as on being black in America. Her story contains bits and pieces of memories provided to her by several of the residents of this strong and faithful community. Her story is a tribute to the place and the people she loved. Though she died in 1992, her work, her stories, and her memory live on.
