Homecoming 2009

Homecoming 2008 has come and gone.  Our special guest was Warren Read, author of The Lyncher in Me: A Search for Redemption in the Face of History. Below are some pictures from that gathering. The 2009 annual Homecoming will be on Sunday, August 2nd. Our keynote speaker will be Mark Miles, Deputy State Historical Preservation Officer for the State of Missouri with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

  1. Keep up the good wor. i visited the church when I was doing a black history tour of Missouri. Best wishes for your homecoming in Aug. I will send you a black heritage newsletter where I include something about Penny Town

  2. I think it would be very helpful to have directions to the church posted on your Web site. It’s not very easy to find if you’re not a local person. Thanks.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion, Kathy. We will work on getting directions up as soon as possible.

  3. Living History. Just heard about Pennytown from my daughter. We live in the Kansas City Missouri area and hope to see the wonderful church hopefully this summer.

  4. That is really fascinating, You’re a very skilled blogger. I have joined your rss feed and stay up for looking for more of your fantastic post. Also, I’ve shared your site in my social networks

  5. We are excited to be planning a celebration weekend that includes a trip to historic Pennytown Freeman Baptist Church – celebrating and remembering the courage of those who paved the way.
